香叶基二磷酸（GPP）是异戊二烯生物合成的中间体。异痉挛化合物是一组多样化的天然产物，是所有细胞中必不可少的成分。异戊二烯由简单的前体异戊烯基二磷酸酯（IPP）和二甲基烯丙基二磷酸酯（DMAPP）生物合成而成。真核生物、真菌和一些革兰氏阳性细菌通过甲羟戊酸 （MVA） 途径产生 IPP，而革兰氏阴性和一些革兰氏阳性细菌利用非甲羟戊酸或 2-C-甲基-D-赤藓糖醇-4-磷酸 （MEP） 途径。GPP是由DMAPP和IPP在香叶基二磷酸合酶催化下缩合形成的。
