Expression studies performed on a genome scale have become very popular and provide an important link between the sequence and the function of a specific gene, thereby constituting the first step towards the elucidation of the function of specific genes. By correlating the modulation of gene expression with specific changes in physiology, it is possible to gain insights into the temporal modifications that occur in induced cells as well as the molecular differences between various cells or tissues samples.
